Azimio and UDA youth clash in Kisii, four injured

After a fight between Azimio and UDA supporters occurred on Saturday, a portion of the streets in Kisii were closed off to traffic.

The morning altercation between the two groups injured at least four youths.

A police officer who was wearing riot gear was stoned and received minor injuries to his back.

The confrontation broke out after a number of youth who had left the Kisii County Assembly began throwing stones at the UDA supporters near Ram Hospital along the Daraja Moja-Nyamataro bypass.

The leader of the UDA faction, Fred Nunda, condemned the incident.

He claimed that a rival group provoked them while they were holding peaceful protests.

“They began throwing stones at us. We did not have any issues with them, we only had misgivings with the way ODM leader Raila Odinga and Siaya Senator James Orengo used their rally in Kisii to trade very disparaging remarks on our leaders,” said Nunda.

Some of the demonstrators rode onto the Capital Roundabout after the demonstrations started near the Daraja Mbili market.

Before leaving for the Daraja Moja-Nyamataro bypass, they addressed the media. There, they encountered the stone-throwing protestors.
