Mohamed “Afsha” Magdy is once more being linked to Celtic, according to his agent, who says that the Bhoys are interested in signing him for the upcoming season.
Under Ange Postecoglou, the Bhoys enjoy making deals in the first few days of January, and that is undoubtedly taking place once more.
Postecoglou once more had the J1 League in mind when Japanese defender Yuki Kobayashi agreed to join on a free transfer from Vissel Kobe earlier this month.
On Saturday, Celtic made their second January acquisition when they revealed a deal for right back Alistair Johnston of CF Montreal.
Although the transfer window won’t open for another week or so, Celtic already has two players lined up, with a third possible.
Mohamed “Afsha” Magdy is a name that Celtic fans will be familiar with.
In 2020, Afsha’s agent informed the Daily Record that Celtic had made the playmaker a signing offer.
Then, in 2021, Aisha’s agent claimed that Celtic were competing with Galatasaray and Besitkas for the Al-Ahly star.
With Football Scotland reporting that Celtic have made “initial contact” to try and sign Afsha, it is now time for the 2022 version of this rumour.
Afsha is attracting interest from clubs in the English Championship and Turkey, and Celtic will have competition for his services in January.
According to the agent Maher Nawfal, there is “interest from Celtic,” but he and Afsha will take their time to consider their options.
Afsha, 26, can play on either flank but typically plays as a number 10.
Afsha, a small-framed talent who stands just 5 feet 6 inches tall, has racked up 29 goals and 32 assists in 146 games for Al-Ahly.
Postecoglou may be drawn to Afsha’s technical skills, but the time is running out on this one.
The Egyptian will turn 27 in March, and if the month goes by without a transfer to Celtic, we can only assume that it won’t happen as he approaches 30.
