Gary Lineker, the presenter of Match of the Day, indirectly complimented Nottingham Forest following their crucial win in the relegation battle.
The fight to avoid relegation now appears to be limited to five teams after West Ham United’s significant victory against Manchester United on Sunday.
The Hammers earned a 1-0 win at the London Stadium thanks to a goal from Said Benrahma, which puts them seven points ahead of Nottingham Forest, who have played an extra game.
Nottingham Forest is set to play against Southampton on Monday in a significant match for their survival bid, while West Ham can focus on their upcoming Europa Conference League semi-final against AZ Alkmaar.
In response to West Ham’s win, Lineker praised their performance and suggested that their commitment to manager David Moyes was being rewarded.
“Great win for West Ham,” Lineker wrote on Twitter. “Interesting that another team that stuck with their manager has reaped the rewards.”
This season has seen a total of 15 managerial changes in the Premier League, but only Nottingham Forest and West Ham have retained their managers in the bottom half of the table.
Despite facing uncertainties about his future throughout the season, Forest have kept faith in their manager Steve Cooper. Currently, they are in the relegation zone based on goal difference with only four games remaining.
It is unclear which other teams Gary Lineker was referring to in his praise for West Ham’s commitment to manager David Moyes.
However, it is worth noting that the top four teams, Liverpool, Brentford, and Fulham have all retained their original coaches.
West Ham’s recent win means that it will be challenging for Forest to finish above them in the table. Nonetheless, Forest can move a step closer to securing safety by securing a positive result against Southampton at the City Ground.
