On Saturday, Getafe appointed Jose Bordalas as coach again in a bid to avoid relegation from LaLiga.
Initially, the team had announced on Friday that Ruben Reyes, the sporting director, would take over the position after media reports suggested that Bordalas had declined the job.
However, it was later reported that the club president, Angel Torres, had persuaded Bordalas to come back.
“The coach from Alicante returns to what is his home,” said Getafe in a statement.
“As Azulon coach, he took charge of 212 games between 2016 and 2021, in that time achieving promotion to the top flight and qualifying for the Europa League.”
Getafe, who have not won a game in the last five matches, are in the bottom three of LaLiga after sacking their coach Quique Sanchez Flores on Thursday.
Their position worsened when Valencia won on Thursday, pushing them further into the relegation zone.
The club will play against Espanyol on Sunday, a crucial match at the bottom of the table. Espanyol, currently in 19th place, is three points behind Getafe.
