Reports suggest that Inter Milan are not interested in continuing transfer talks with Chelsea regarding Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian striker has struggled for form and fitness while on loan at San Siro and will be returned to Stamford Bridge.
Despite being a £98 million ($122m) signing, he has only scored seven goals in 24 appearances this season, with just three coming in the league.
Inter will instead consider other options such as Firmino, Thuram, and Retegui, while Lukaku will be forced to return to Chelsea where his contract runs until 2026.
This news comes as a blow to Lukaku, who had previously enjoyed a successful stint at Inter Milan during the 2020-21 season, where he scored 24 goals in 36 Serie A appearances and helped the club win the Scudetto.
Lukaku was brought in by Chelsea last summer to bolster their attacking options and had initially made a good start to his second stint with the club.
However, a thigh injury sustained in September kept him out of action for over two months, and he has since struggled to regain his form and sharpness.
If Lukaku does return to Chelsea as expected, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to break into the starting lineup, with the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, and Christian Pulisic all vying for places in the team.
Chelsea currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League, two points behind third-placed Manchester United, and have a tough run of fixtures coming up, including a Champions League quarter-final second-leg tie against Real Madrid and league matches against West Ham United and Manchester City.
