Following Graham Potter’s departure as Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard will be joined by some recognisable names at the club. These include club legend Ashley Cole.
The team currently sits 11th in the Premier League table.
Lampard is expected to return to Stamford Bridge on an interim basis until the conclusion of the season.
He is not the only coach seeking redemption. Lampard will team up with Joe Edwards and Chris Jones.
Lampard will reportedly bring former Goodison coach Cole, along with Edwards and Jones. Both of the latter followed him from Chelsea to Everton.
By appointing Lampard for the rest of the season Chelsea appear to be buying themselves some time while searching for a new permanent coach.
Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, the club’s co-owners, are allegedly considering potential replacements in Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann.
Following Potter’s departure, former Brighton captain Bruno Saltor managed the Blues for one match. The scoreless draw against Liverpool at home saw the club stay in the bottom half of the league table.
The matchup with Wolves, and their journey to Madrid on Wednesday could determine the course of their season.
It had been suggested that Bruno might continue leading the team through the rest of the season, but that is unlikely with Lampard getting closer to a return.
Boehly’s views on the state of the club
Boehly and Eghbali said earlier this week: “Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season.
“We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.”
