According to reports, Liverpool have submitted an £84m bid for Jude Bellingham. The 19-year-old midfielder has been named as Jurgen Klopp’s top target since December 2021. It is believed that the Liverpool manager has personally pushed for the move to happen.
Bellingham has already established himself as a key player in a top-five European league with Borussia Dortmund. He has also become a regular England international. Liverpool have reportedly been keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s progress for some time. Klopp is a known admirer of the youngster’s ability and potential.
Liverpool have been active in the transfer market this season, spending over £100m combined on Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo. Both players have already made important impacts at Anfield, albeit not on a fully consistent basis yet.
Caught Offside, citing sources, reported that Liverpool have launched an early bid for Bellingham ahead of the summer transfer window. The offer is believed to be worth €95 million (£84 million). This would be a new transfer record for the Reds.
It is unclear whether the bid would be paid in one instalment or whether it includes add-ons. Dortmund has yet to reply to Liverpool’s offer, and there is an understanding that the German giants are “eager to receive additional proposals from other interested clubs.”
If the bid is accepted, Liverpool would hope that Bellingham could have a similar or even greater impact on the team than Van Dijk, who has won seven trophies during his time at Anfield. Klopp has spoken about the need for Liverpool to strengthen their squad this summer, and signing Bellingham would certainly achieve that goal.
