Latest News Today: Microsoft’s great OneNote merge begins with a single app in the Windows store.
Over the past year, Microsoft has been combining its OneNote and OneNote for Windows 10 apps into a single programme, and there is now only one version of OneNote available in the Windows store.
The classic OneNote desktop app has received a visual update as well as certain capabilities from the UWP OneNote for Windows 10 app thanks to the “great OneNote merge,” as I like to call it.
“OneNote for Windows 10 will no longer be available in the Microsoft Store,” explains the OneNote team in a blog post. “It will continue to work, but it will not get new feature updates and will reach end-of-support in October 2025.”
Moving ahead, Microsoft wants to make sure you get the correct OneNote version. Technically, you can still utilise the direct store URL provided here as a workaround if you still need to download the OneNote UWP version to a new device.
This primary OneNote app now supports both inking and dictation, and a streamlined single line ribbon has been added to make the main interface feel a little less cluttered.

But compared to the OneNote app for Windows 10, this complete version of OneNote still doesn’t feel as portable or user-friendly.
That’s unfortunate because OneNote for Windows 10 was one of Microsoft’s best Universal Windows Platform apps, despite the fact that the firm has essentially given up on the idea of creating UWP apps.
