It was reported that Luis Suarez frequently requested a transfer to Villa Park before Aston Villa gave Steven Gerrard his P45 in the Midlands.
Although he and Gerrard remain friends from their time together at Liverpool, the spectacular career of the Uruguayan international is almost ended. According to The Athletic, the South American made a strong push to join the Villans.
Despite the 35-year-desperate old’s attempts to join Aston Villa, The Athletic believes the club ultimately decided against doing so.
Now, though, a trade for Suarez would be quite simple to complete if Unai Emery is open to it.
Well, the Uruguayan joined Nacional on a temporary basis after departing Atlético Madrid at the end of the previous campaign.
Suarez led Nacional to the Uruguayan Championship with six goals in 13 games, although he later revealed he was quitting the team after winning the trophy.
As quoted by ESPN, the Salto-born striker said: “I am satisfied to have taken the right step, to have enjoyed this moment, and I am happy to end it like this.”
As a result, Aston Villa can sign him for free; if they so choose, they could even reach an agreement right away.
Suarez established himself as one of the finest attackers ever to play in England, scoring 69 goals in 110 Premier League games for Liverpool over four spectacular seasons.
In our opinion, Aston Villa should offer Suarez a six-month deal in January if he is willing to accept a modest pay.
With only 20-year-old Cameron Archer watching from the bench during Saturday’s 4-0 loss to Newcastle, the Villans are without a reliable frontman to bring off the bench.
Suarez still has the ability to hurt opponents in a 30-minute stint off the bench, even though he may not be able to wear out defences for an entire game.
Keeping an eye on the Uruguayan’s status is important because there have been rumours of him moving to the United States, but after pleading with Steven Gerrard to sign him for Aston Villa, everything is possible.
