Despite scoring two goals in his latest game for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, Cristiano Ronaldo is still in the shadow of his teammate Anderson Talisca, who also scored twice in the same game and is currently the league’s joint top scorer with 16 goals, tied with Odion Ighalo.
Ronaldo has scored 11 goals in nine league games so far. Al-Nassr are currently in second place in the league standings with 52 points, trailing behind leaders Al-Ittihad by one point.
Ronaldo had signed a contract with Al-Nassr until 2025, which was estimated by media to be worth more than 200 million euros ($219 million).
“Every top player does his job. My full focus is on Al-Nassr winning, not on being the league’s top scorer. My main goal is to lead the team to win, and then everything else will come,” Talisca told Saudi’s SSC channel through a translator.
Ronaldo, the Portugal captain, passed on the opportunity to take a penalty kick in the previous match against Abha, instead allowing Talisca to take the winning penalty four minutes from time.
Talisca went on to score and described it as a show of “mutual respect.” However, in the recent match on Tuesday, Ronaldo opted to take the penalty himself and scored, giving him ten goals for the season.
