One of the two suspects who escaped custody and took a rifle from a police armory at the Shikhendu police station has been apprehended again.
The AK-47 rifle has also been recovered.
28-year-old Daniel Wanjala Sindani was reportedly apprehended on Friday night during an operation, according to the police.
The police found the rifle with him and were able to retrieve it.
The public and government officials worked together to make the arrest and recover the items, according to the local police.
Samuel Wafula Barasa, one of those who managed to flee, is being sought, according to the police, who also noted that two rounds were gone.
The two suspects reportedly smashed through the iron sheets and the hardwood roof of the police station before jumping into the report office, where they took one AK-47 rifle and destroyed the steel armoury.
There were 14 7.62mm rounds in the gun.
After then, they fled undetected through the station’s main door, which was unlocked, according to authorities.
The suspects were accused with the crime of stock theft and were scheduled to appear before court.
A search was conducted in an attempt to find the stolen firearm and rearrest the thieves. The incident is being investigated, according to police, who have vowed to take appropriate action.
