Tinder has announced a new feature that will require members to take a series of video selfies to verify their identity.
This is in addition to the existing photo verification system and is being implemented globally. The new process aims to combat the use of AI technology and ensure that users are genuine.
The verified blue-checkmark, which indicates a genuine account, can only be earned through this new process.
The video selfie verification process on Tinder involves recording a short video of yourself using your smartphone’s front camera.
This method of digital verification is not new and has been used by other dating apps such as Hinge, as well as companies like Apple and Google for their state ID process.
The introduction of this feature is a response to the increasing number of romance scams that have been reported across multiple platforms, some of which have resulted in serious consequences such as car thefts and cryptocurrency thefts.
One of the benefits of being verified on Tinder is the ability to only communicate with other verified members, who are part of an exclusive group known as “Photo Verified Cuties.”
However, even if you are already verified, you will need to re-verify using the new video selfie feature in the coming months. This is part of Tinder’s efforts to maintain the authenticity of its community and combat the use of fake accounts.
